What are some lesser-known fishing destinations in Canada that offer incredible angling opportunities?
» Fishing LocationsBeen fishing around Canada a fair bit and hit all the usual hotspots. But I'm hunting for some hidden gems now. You know, the ones that aren't on every angler's radar. Anybody got any tips on some underrated fishing destinations in this great land? Looking for those incredible spots that just don't get the hype they deserve.
How about the Northwest Territories? There's some amazing secluded spots up there. Sure, it can be challenging terrain, but that's part of the adventure right? The fish up there aren't as pressured as other places, so they're more likely to bite. It's a big area though, so I'd first check out the Kakisa River if you're into Pike!
Oh, gotta lend my voice for Quebec's Lake Saint-Pierre. It's a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, so you know it's teeming with life. Not just any life mind ya, we're talking Muskie and Northern Pike here. Doesn't get any more Canadian than a good fight with a Pike, eh? It\'s a bit off the beaten path, but isn't that part of the charm? What's your favourite fish to aim for, mate?
Yeah, totally with you on that one about the charm of off-beaten path. Let's not forget about Lake Athabasca in Saskatchewan, a catch mecca, Walleye and Northern Pike are a nice catch there. What's your biggest catch so far, by the way?
I might add British Columbia's Dean River to your list. It's a bit remote, but if you're up for steelhead and salmon, it's worth it. But definitely plan ahead, as it requires a bit of hiking to get to the best spots.
And then there's always the Arctic Ocean. I mean, who needs other anglers when you've got polar bears for company!
Ever tried the ol' "literally ice fishing" in Nunavut? Just watch for the seals – they\'re the original local fishermen!
Don't overlook Ontario's Algoma Country. A bit under the radar and less crowded. You'll have peaceful fishing with plenty of trout and smallmouth bass up for grabs.
Well, you might not find a mermaid, but Reindeer Lake, Saskatchewan has monster Northern Pike and Walleye that might sing you a siren song!
How about Cypress Hills? Tucked away in Saskatchewan, it's like a sweet little secret. Great for trout, and you almost feel like you’ve got the whole place to yourself!
For sure! Another hidden gem is Cowichan River on Vancouver Island. Known for its fly fishing, especially with the brown trout scene.
