How can I motivate kids to have fun even if they don't catch any fish?

I've been having a bit of trouble while fishing with the kids recently. We've been hitting the water but the fish aren't biting and the kids are getting bored. I can feel their frustration levels rising when they don't catch anything. It's really taking the fun out of the whole experience for them. The thing is, for me, fishing has always been about more than the catch. It's about the journey, the anticipation, the peace and quiet of nature, the bonding time... But, how can I convey this to the kids? What are some tips or strategies to keep them entertained and motivated even when they aren't catching anything? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Consider turning fishing into a game! Even if they don't catch a fish, make a competition out of who can cast the furthest, or who can spot the most birds. Also, involving them in setting up the gear or choosing the bait might get them engaged.

Have you tried incorporating a scavenger hunt into your fishing trips? It could be something simple that keeps them engaged with nature and the outdoors even when the fish aren't biting. Maybe even introducing fishing related books or fun fact cards about different fish types could pique their interest? Has anyone tried these ideas or do you have any additional recommendations to keep the excitement alive and make fishing more about the experience and less about the catch?

Pack some art supplies. If they get bored, they can draw or paint the beautiful scenery. This could help them appreciate the environment while waiting for the fish to bite.

Invest in kid-friendly fishing gear to make it easier for them and consider playing fishing related games or stories to develop their interest in the activity itself. Keep it light, fun and less about what they catch.

Snacks. Seriously, never underestimate the power of food to distract and uplift moods. But are they going to focus on fishing or turn it into a picnic?
