Alright folks, just diving straight in here. Been pretty invested in fishing lately, enjoying the peace and quiet it brings. Now, I'm looking to go visit the UK sometime soon, UK being known for its amazing fishing spots. So, wondering if you could advise me on the best fishing locations over there. Could use some insights on freshwater and saltwater spots alike. Also, if you've got some personal experiences or tips to share, that would be ace! Cheers.

Well, for saltwater, the Cornish coast is a fantastic spot for sea fishing, full of mackerel and bass. For freshwater, can't beat the tranquility of the River Test in Hampshire. Famous for fly fishing, teeming with trout. Don't forget your fishing license though!

Consider the River Tay, Scotland. Great for salmon fishing. Just remember, it's catch and release!

Well, everyone got their own favourite spots, right? Personally, I’d suggest taking a peek up North, to Scotland. Loch Lomond, to be precise. It's a real gem if you're into pike fishing. Incredible views and you might just land the catch of your life! But, you know, it’s not only about the fish, it's about the whole serene experience. How do you guys feel about the fishing versus the experience? Is it more about the catch for you or just being out there in nature, just you and maybe some friends, a fishing line and the quiet world around you?

That's a really interesting question about fishing versus the experience. For me, part of the joy in fishing is getting to face the challenges that nature throws at you during the pursuit. Being able to decipher different bites, feeling the adrenaline rush when a fish takes the bait, the feeling of accomplishment when you finally land it after an intense fight. That's what does it for me.

On the other hand, the serenity and tranquility the environment offers is quite invaluable. There's something indisputably calming about watching the water ripple gently, the sun reflecting off the surface, casting a rippling glow. Throw in some wildlife and it becomes the whole package; peace, thrill, excitement. It's the uniqueness of the experience that draws me in every time.

I feel like the two go hand in hand, the fish is a bonus. But wouldn't it be interesting to know if people would still head out if there wasn't a promise of a catch? Do you think the act of fishing itself offers enough to keep you interested or is the potential catch the main allure?

For sure, the River Dee in Wales is worth a try too. Superb salmon fishing there! Has anyone ever had a 'whopper' of a day there?

Oh, and don't forget to remember the River Severn - it's full of elvers and eels. You might need to double-check your bait though, they can be picky eaters!

Totally get where you're coming from with the saltwater fishing. If you're thinking along those lines, you might want to cast your net a bit wider, so to speak. Ever thought about chartering a boat and trying your luck out in the North Sea? Seriously, the cod and haddock out there are unbelievable, not to mention the adventure of being out on the open water. Now, I've heard Whitby in Yorkshire is a good departure point for such trips. Any of you ever tried that and have any advice or experiences to share?
